Coding Presentations!!!

On Tuesday, December 5th Eric gave a presentation on the Jboard on computer programming.  The timing was wonderful because this week is Coding Hour week.  Our class will be coding in Media this Friday.

This is one of Eric's slides showing four different kinds of coding language.  He also explained the numerous uses for coding in our everyday lives.

Eric's dad then gave a presentation on some of the work he is doing at M.I.T   Mr. Buehler is a professor and researcher at M.I.T.   He fascinated the class with some of the spiderweb simulations as part of developing cutting edge nanotechnology.

Thanks to Eric and Mr. Buehler for their great presentations!!!!!

Remember parents - if you have a craft, hobby, favorite story, or something else to share with our class please reach out to either Mr. Duffy or Ms. Mazzaglia.

Protect an Egg Performance Task

This week students worked to design solutions to prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a height of two meters.  Biomechanical engineers design solutions to protect people.  Biomechanical engineers who work on cars use crash test dummies to test protective designs.  We used eggs for our crash tests.

Students began by designing and sketching a model of their design.  Then they began building their protective device with partners.

After students built their models it was time for the eggs and the crash tests. Thanks to Mrs. Kelly (Andrew's Mom) for donating the eggs.

Students would examine their egg and evaluate the success of their design.  Groups then redesigned and tested again.  Some groups added a second egg to their device to test if additional mass would change the effectiveness of their models.

🚢🛳Essex Shipbuilding Museum Trip🚢🚢

Our class went to the Essex Shipbuilding Museum on June 4th. Our class learned lots of things about building ships and shipbuilding terms. We were split into four groups. Each group rotated to four stations and learned new and different things about shipbuilding that extended their knowledge about the Northeast.
